I am not usually a controversial person I rarely discuss in public on line forums things others have written. I like to just let things roll, middle child, blah, blah...
but
I just read this article on Babble (a site which I mostly love!) and it had me feeling slightly uneasy I didn't giggle with it as I often do with their lists.
why?
because it reminds me of judgments from other parts in life, like when children are deemed either athlete's, book smart, street smart or artsy! all of these things leave no room for one to be both athletic and artsy, book-smart and street-smart. This in my experience often follows our children through school and into adulthood when they so frequently need to then break the mold and step out of their past to reinvent themselves for a new future.
In this article it feels like we are now doing the same to mothers why do I have be be any one type of mother, can't I be earth momma in the kitchen and the labor room but slacker momma when it suits to slow down and Big kid momma on ever second Saturday when I get the groove on and of course Shlumpy momma on occasion??? (or often)
can't we cut a few labels ...just a few, accept our fellow mother's for their strengths and pardon them their weaknesses (I could use a little pardon for the many moments I fall short)
I will of course keep reading Babble and getting a giggle, I love most tongue and cheek pieces regarding our outlandish and entertaining must have mommy items and entertaining preconceptions on parenting etc...
but
I don't want to label my fellow mothers on the playground. I say be who you want be today and it is ok if that isn't the same momma as you want to be tomorrow just enjoy, because...I said so!
Teehee! I guess today I am channeling a touch of the Sanctimommy!
Multi-momma hear me ROAR!
*on a side note I do see how at first glace a new park parent could perceive others in some of these obvious categories but I say look further :)
